INTERACTIVE “MASLENITSA” SHOW

INTERACTIVE “MASLENITSA” SHOW

Maslenitsa is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday celebrated during the last week before Great Fast. The date of Maslenitsa changes from year to year depending on the Easter celebration date.
The main traditional attributes of Maslenitsa celebration are “Lady Maslenitsa” effigy, merry-making, sleighing, open air celebrations and, of course, pancakes.

On March 5, 6 and 12 the four restaurants of “Grabli” chain gave a puppet show devoted to the holiday. Skomorokhs (harlequins) showed how people had celebrated Maslenitsa in Ancient Rus, and at the same time they involved anyone to form a merry and festive circle. These were accompanied with festal music, Maslenitsa songs and Russian humorous folk songs (chastushki).
