Well, major cereals in China are rice and wheat. The Chinese ameliorated rice 7 thousand years ago. And for about one thousand years it is the main dish in the cuisine. The worst insult for a Chinese is if someone throws a rice ball at him. It brings bad luck. There are 8 000 types of rice in the world. the most popular of them are Basmati rice, black glutinous rice, long- grain rice, round-grain rice, wild rice, whole grain rice, white glutinous rice, Jasmine rice, evaporated rice, red rice, medium-grain rice and short-grain rice. Rice is the main dish for 3 billion people in the world. It is impressive, isn’t it?

Besides rice, Chinese people like wheat. Chinese noodles are made of wheat or rice mixed with water. It could be also made of green soybeans and mung bean flour. By the way, Asians (not Italians) were the first to eat pasta. And it happened almost 3000 years ago!

And of course, its majesty the tea! The culture of tea drinking and the variety of teas were presented to the world by the Chinese civilization. Yes, tea was also discovered by the Chinese in 2737 BC. Much later, in the 9th century, tea was started to be drunk in Japan, Korea and south-east Asia. In the 17th century the Dutch brought tea to Europe, and the British made it popular worldwide. Now tea is produced in India, Sri Lanka, Japan and Indonesia. But the true connoisseurs of the drink adore Chinese tea. In China, by the way, the most popular varieties of tea are green, turquoise and red.
